Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean From Bolivia to Brazil?

Hi!

I have a route mapped out for my Latin American trip, but I am completely stuck on one point!
I am planning on travelling from Peru to Bolivia by bus and from Bolivia to the north of Brazil (Fortaleza or Recife... maybe Belem?) I have seen the boat option, but it takes far too long....
Does anyone have any tips on doing this trip a bit faster?
Bus, plane, anything?
I really want to start from the top of Brazil and work my way down the coast and then into Argentina, as my timing will allow me to be in Salvador for the Carnival.....
Any tips???

Thanks!

Hi Bionda,

I don't have my guidebook available right now, but I remember there is a somewhat frequently used bus connection from Santa Fe to a spot at the Bol-Bra border. Not to be used during the rain season, doable otherwise. Check the south american handbook (2004 edition); it is in there somewhere. Boats are never a very desirable option, if you ask me :-)

Good luck and let me know how you did it,
Niels (Amsterdam)

Hi Bionda!

You can doing next route:

Puno (Peru) / La Paz (Bolivia) / Cochabamba/ Santa Cruz / Puerto Suarez (Bolivia) / Corumba (Brasil) / Sao Paulo/ Rio de Janeiro.

From Río you have a lot of buses to the Northern of Brazil : Recife, Bahia, Fortaleza, Belem.

From Puno (Peru) to Santa Cruz (Bolivia) there are only buses to the trip.

From Santa Cruz to Puerto Suarez you need take a train (only train). I recomended you buy a first class (is cheaper) isn´t very good but is beter than other classes.

From Puerto Suarez to Corumba yo can take a taxi.

In Corumba(Brazil)you take a bus to Sao Paulo (Company Bus : Andorinha)

In Sao Paulo there are a lot of buses to the Northern of Brazil.
(The best Company bus: Itapimirim)

From Puno to Rio the trip is aprox 6 days.

Grettings,

letsgoperu.

Hello Bionda, I live in the Rio de Janeiro, and the journey that you is going to do stayed very distant. Of the Bolivia (La Paz) to the Rio de Janeiro are more of 2500km. As regards the script you can go to the Pantanal (Corumba) after by plane (Rio de Janeiro),Salvador,Recife and Fortaleza. Corumba -Rio (3h) Rio - Salvador (2h 30), Savior-Recife (1h20), Recife -Natal (40min) or 5h bus, Natal- Fortaleza (45min) or 8h bus. I am going to have helped.

Try to not go by plane if you can avoid it. It's the worst thing you can do to the environment, and furthermore you will miss out of lots of things that you would see if you go by busses or trains. You should only go by plane if you're in a hurry - and you shouldn't be in a hurry when you're on vaccation...

Good luck!
