Jeans or no jeans? That is the question....

Travel Forums Travel Gear Jeans or no jeans? That is the question....

Hey,

I'm not sure whether I should take a pair of jeans with me when I go travelling? I'm going to want to party whenever I can, and my battered travelling trousers might not look the part...
If I'm not going to use them that often though, they would be quite a weight burden..;)

If you have taken them before, did you actually get much use out of them?

I'm off round SE Asia, Aus, NZ and USA

I never used jeans in Thailand, mainly because I didnt go to any clubs there. But my RTW trip is way more extensive and I'll probably have lots of opporunties..

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

I am just finishing my rtw trip and went to most of the places that you are going and I would say take at least 1 pair - my other half didnt take any and about 3 weeks in we had to but him some!! If you find you are not waring them you can always cut them into shorts.
Hope that helps:)

Cheers, I'm more inclined to take some now. Though I could buy a pair dirt cheap on the road somewhere.....then again, 36" leg is difficult to come by in Asia as hardly anyone is tall!

In the US, like in Canada, you won't be able to get into some clubs if you wear jeans or sneakers/runners. If you want to party in North America, you'd better pack some nice trousers (no jeans, no battered travel wear) and a pair of smart shoes.

I am 3/4 of the way round doing the same kind trip as you. I decided not to take jeans with me purely cos of the temperature in asia i knew i wouldnt wear them and they would take up so much room in my bag. Decided that when i got to Australia I would buy some cheap ones here which i did and havent been out of them since.

Jeans it is then, and if they're not smart enough, then I'll have to deal with it I suppose...don't want to end up taking half my wardrobe

I must say I have the opposite thought on Jeans. I did a lot of hiking and camping growing up and one of my friends made the mistake of taking a pair of jeans on a camping trip. They weren't too bad, but then they got wet. Once jeans get wet they take forever to dry, are extremely heavy and they offer horrible insulation. Plus they take up a lot of room in your pack. I would think about not taking a pair to start with and picking one up along the way if you need them.
