First of all, all Australian banks suck.

But try the ANZ Bank - they probably suck the least.

Find a bank that doesn't suck, including the A&NZ

I signed up with Citibank before I came out here but you only get 10 free transactions per month.

Woolworths (the supermarket) also do a bank account through the Commonwealth Bank. Just pick up a leaflet in store; I think the amount of free transactions is unlimited.

i hear Bendigo bank is good. it is a Community bank (not dodgy though). I think ALL banks now charge account keeping fees- $5 per month. I am with citibank but i only get 2 free transactions a month and anything over that is $2 a pop.

ANZ is probably your best bet. Don't go to the commonwealth bank...I have been with them since I was a kid and their fees are to high, the only reason I am still with them is because my loan in through them.

And stay clear of National Bank because when I was at home when I did the internet banking for the company I worked for there were numerous problems with them

Hi,

Aust. banks do charge a lot (that is the part that sux), but most have good service and are consistent with their information.

I'd recommend Bendigo, BankSA (in South Australia) or St.George if (NSW). Other banks which charge more are Wespac, ANZ and Commonwealth.

Good Luck,
L

I started an account with Commonwealth Bank yesterday. $4/mo gives me unlimited transactions and access to internet/telephone banking, plus no extra fees if I use another bank's ATM. It's actually a better deal than what I had in Canada with TD Bank!
