very sorry to see that drugs is still what my city is primarily associated with. The situation is (and always HAS been):

Drugs are illegal, in the Netherlands as everywhere else. However, there also is a policy not to take legal action against those buying pot FOR THEIR OWN, PERSONAL USE.

IF you get caught (and that's a really big if, since the police doesn't really seem to care all that much about what tourists are up to) with more than what can reasonably be said to be your own portion of the day, you will be treated as a soft drugs dealer, which at the very least implies that you will have to leave the country immediately, if not worse.

ALL OTHER KINDS OF DRUGS ARE ILLEGAL. Xtc and related products in general are of good quality, but please have your pills checked (if possible) at the party you happen to attend when overcome by an urge to use it.

Finally, I never tire of saying it, there is other things to Amsterdam besides the red light district and the soft drug policy. Why not spend your time and money on those?

As I said, if you're found carrying more than what can reasonably be said to exceed your own daily portion, you're in big trouble. There must be a fixed amount, but I'm not aware how much that would be, I guess anywhere over 3 grams gets you into trouble.

IF YOU'RE FOUND CROSSING THE DUTCH/UK, OR WORSE, BELGIAN/FRENCH/UK BORDER CARRYING DRUGS, YOU FALL INTO THE HANDS OF FRENCH OR ENGLISH JUSTICE. To say the least, they don't like our drugs policy, so don't be foolish enough to try, for you WILL be jailed.

If you are going to Amsterdam for the drugs, best just to sit in a coffee shop and have a smoke there. It's very civilised, much like going for a pint here.

and also, for example if you take a bus or a plane from amsterdam to another city, they will check for drugs

by the way, also the swiss border is just checking almost every bus that comes from amsterdam with tourists and if they see you there twice in a very short period of time, you can be sure that they check everything..

and not every dutch person is stoned all day long..

Okay, so my brain has been overwhelmed with the laws on drugs... I'm tired of seeing just drug stuff for amsterdam, I want to know the laws and restrictions on what else i can carry... I'm planning on going to amsterdam and I want to know what I can carry on me weapon wise, like knives and such. I don't like to be walking around places that are known for pick pocketing and not be ready to take care of myself lol... And any tips on how to carry my wallet and stuff... Any fanny pack crap I don't want to hear about, would my chain wallet be wise or would that bring too much attention to it?

Always take care for your belongings wherever you are. I think you don't need a chain in Amsterdam. Don't put your wallet in for instance a rucksack or a bag which you hold in your hand. Don't put it in a backpocket of your trousers if you want te be totally sure. You don't need weapons in Amsterdam...its not Baghdad!!! Have a nice stay in Amsterdam.

well it isn't jut for paranoia reasons, it's habit, I can end up walking anywhere with a knife and end up being booted out because i'm not supposed to have it so I just wanted to know if there are any laws about pocket knives or the such. But thanks for the info
