As sex is concerned. Paedophilia is a crime and its discusting. You won't find girls/boys under 18 in the redlight district of Amsterdam as it is against the law. So Amsterdam is not the "wild west" as some people like to think.

Sadly, you dó find underage kids in the redlight district... of course they are not advertised as such, but there still are pimps that manage to slip through the ever-tightening net of law enforcement. Needless to say that paedophilia is looked upon as a very serious crime, easily landing you in jail for up to 10 years. Fortunately so.

For the rest, Dutch sexual morals (or regulations) aren't much different from that of countries surrounding us. The sexually permissive atmosphere in Amsterdam is really only there to please stupid tourists; but you WILL be fined for having sex in the open, for solliciting, for streaking, etc. If you just come to Amsterdam to experience sex, drugs, and drinking, PLEASE stay where you are.

Hello Crackmann
Marijuana is the only drug u can use, in Holland, without getting into police trouble. It is available to buy in coffee shops, all over the country.
U can have up to around 5g at a time. So only for personal use.
U are not allowed to take it to any other country, even though u bought it fair and square. It is not in fact legal, but it is tolerated. Therefore, smoke in the cafes or in private, not walking around the streets, or in MacDonalds.

i just have a few questions about Amsterdam because i have heard lot's of things that seem as though they may not be true.

first off, can you be under the age of 18 and still buy marijuana in coffee shops and smoke it in the shop?

secondly, can a person under the age of 18 pay for sex as long as it's in their hotel room and not in public? i've heard that people of all ages can order women to their hotel rooms even if under 18?

last but not least, can people under the age of 18 legally buy alcohol in bars or stores and have a few drinks in a bar or wherever as long as its not on the open streets?

thanks for your help.

I was in Amsterdam, for the first time, when i was 19, with my exboyfriend, who was also 19. Nobody asked our ages or for id, in the coffee shops, when we bought Marijuana. But maybe things have changed. That was 18 years ago.

I will ask my boyfriend, who is from the Neitherlands, to answer your questions.

According to my Dutch boyfriend, there is a Dutch law book, on the web. It has information, about the legality of the drug and sex and drinking industries, in the Neitherlands.
When he finds the link, to the law book, i will post it here.

Hello123,

Triple 'no' to your questions. If you considered Amsterdam as a possible destination because of these things, PLEASE stay at home.

My boyfriend is going to do his best, to find out about the laws of the netherlands, in order to help with this thread, but he says the following

Heh, I hope I can find the right spots. And as I'm not a lawyer, I can't say if there is jurisprudence circumventing loopholes and what have you, but I think I can at least find the basic laws about underage drinking, drug-use and whoring.
