What do you think are the showcase cities of each country??

Some are going to be fairly obvious like London for England, Paris for France, Sydney and Gold Coast for Australia, New York for USA but tehre might be some less obviouse ones for those countries that people forget about.

Gold Coast? How is that a showcase 'city'? Is it even a city at all?

It's always the capital, isn't it?

Oh well, except for Brazil of course, where Rio is the natural choice. Has anyone ever been to Brasilia?

It's not always the capital, though usually :) Sydney isn't the capital of Australia. Barcelona isn't the capital of Spain. New York isn't the capital of the US. And I would vote for Kyoto as the showcase city of Japan over Tokyo.

I think you mean 'Surfers Paradise', hence Peter mentioning it. The gold coast is a whole stretch of coast, including even Brisbane if I am not mistaken...

No i Dont mean Surfers Paradise i mean the Gold Coast like i said. And no The Gold Coast does definetely not include Brisbane. Brisbane is about an hours drive inland and north of the Gold Coast

Oops, my bad, Brisbane is not included of course!

What didn't make sense to me was that somehow it managed to be a 'showcase' for Australia when all I think of is a cheesy strip of high rises on an overrated strip of beach. If you are going to name 2 showcases for Australia (kind of defeats the whole purpose of the thread anyway), surely Melbourne ranks a 1000 times higher than the Gold Coast. And if having the tallest building is the deciding factor, then I think Melbourne's claim is stronger as well (when spires, etc. aren't counted) - ie, the Eureka Tower, the tallest residential apartment tower in the world.

And if you're going to pick natural attractions, then the Great Barrier Reef would have to far outstrip the Gold Coast.

When I think of the Gold Coast, property scams are what come to mind, so I really would not like it to be considered a showcase

Sorry, I hope you're not from there..
