I can't decide what to do.
I'm doing a RTW trip, and shall be in Australia for about 3 months, travelling around.
I can't deecided whether to use my Working holiday visa (which I understand you only get once in your life time) and work, or just plod through travelling without working. I would have saved about £4500.00 for the whole year. Is this enough or am I going to have to work to stay a float? Will be going Asia-OZ-NZ-Fiji-USA.
I know Asia is cheap. The thought is...If I love Australia, and want to come back, I would have wasted my Visa on only 3 months work.
Has anyone else asked the same question...what was your outcome?? Did you make the right decision???
Your experience would help me decide. Jen.
4500 pounds is probably borderline for twelve months, unless you spend a fair chunk of that in Asia - Thailand is VERY cheap.
4500 would be plenty to enjoy Oz for 3 months, but if it has to last the year I would expect to have to work a little in Australia.
Are you restricted to a year or could you incorporate a year's work into a RTW trip of, say, 18 months?
Besides, if you like Australia (and everybody does) you'll find 3 months is not enough!
Either way you'll enjoy it.
If you are planning on backpacking then you have stacks of money for 3 months plus most of Asia. Also, if you plan to move around at all you may have trouble finding work for a day or a week, however long you stay in a place.
if it were me, i wouldn't get the visa. not worth is for what you would earn. Unless you are a stripper, cos they make great money- but that's not that likely.
But the USA part might suck your money a lot.
I went shoestring on my world trip, I spent £1,700 in SE Asia & India (5 months), then spent a further £2,300 in Australia, New Zealand & New York (3 months). This included extra internal flights, travelling, accomodation, books, internet & food. I rarely spent money on extras, although did buy some clothes. But was frugal with my money. I didnt drink hardly at all.
Hopefully this may help you with your budget ideas, it depends on you and your spending habits really.
Regarding your working visa, save it until you've seen a bit of Oz, then next time out you know where to aim for work wise! Spend that visa wisely....and before its too late.
Im too old to work in Oz
