Hi all,

I just can't decide. I do have the opportunity to do an exchange semester next year. I picked out three locations I could consider going...

Hongkong, China
Suwon, Korea
Maribor, Slovenia

what would you do?

ps: I'm studying economics

If you're looking to learn a new culture then you have chosen the right places, failing that I would stick to one that is similar to my own.

From a course/economics point of view, i can't help. However, i know all three cities so can help form that end.

Personally, i'd say have maribor as third choice. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place (i lived there for a while), but coming from the Alps already, it won't be much different. German is almost as common as Slovene in the city, so unless you want a really easy option, i'd say to go somewhere else.

Hong Kong is expensive, but an interesting place. You can get by without learning any languiage at all (just use English) and you'll have alloit of fun. From an economic/business point of view, it would also be a good move

Without knowing you, I would say to pick Suwon. It's the most different of the 3 places, and you would probably get much more from it in terms of non study experience than either of the others. It's also the one that you are least likely to get the chance to live in again, and i think you should take those chances. The city itself is big enough (500,000) to have everything you need, without being overly western. The walls are great and it's a good place to wander around and just be. And you are on the Seoul metro, so easy access to a big city/westerners etc if needed. And. And. It's also the city of pretty toilets. And if that fact alone doesn't swing it., i don't know what will!
