ask a kiwi to say "six, sex, socks, sucks & sax" and see if you can tell the difference between any of them.

Ask an Aussie to get a round in, and see if you can tell the difference between him and the squeal of a wounded pig .... ;)

The fish and chips one always comes up, i'm living with aussies and they all take the piss out of kiwi's-altho they know some. Its just funny.

I didnt really know there was much of a difference but i had only heard aussie accents. my flatmate told me about the fish and chips and reckons that kiwi's pronounce it...fosh and chops..

...so wheh we went to a club the other week there seemed to be tons of kiwis with us so i kept asking them to say fish and chips-they must have thought i was a lunatic. I was very 'drunk' to hear the difference!!!

Queenslanders always finish a sentence with ... 'Ay'

I can't go along with that. If that's what you hear Kiwis saying , ie, sex for six, then too much Aussie influence is coming in.
If people find Kiwi accents annoying imagine how Kiwis feel about British accents, they sound as though they have marbles rolling around their mouth.that's if you can understand them at all.

Sex instead of six? (cheap at that price ), it that explains the slaps I got when i was asking for a "sex" pack, instead of a "six" pack when i first went to the UK.

As for the Brit accents, well this thread isn't about them, but there would be loads of pisstaking mileage in that one, so might just have to add one into the Europe section ;)

I could never tell the difference, but I guess that's cos I've never heard many Kiwis. What I will say is that after hearing more and more accents of late, I have noticed that some Kiwi accents (probably moreso around the Auckland area) sound a lot like some South African accents. The word FAMILY seems to be pronounced FEMILY or even FIMILY, akin to South Africans (Sith Ifrica).

This might have something to do with the number of 'Saffers' now residing in the place.

You can pick out a north islander by the 'cuz', 'bro' and 'choice' that gets used in the conversation.
