Can anybody help?!
I am going to Oz in July for 12 months and have decided to keep my car whilst I am away (coz I'll be skint when I get back and wont be able to afford one!) anyway, I've just been told by my insurers they wont insure the car while I'm away because I will be out of the country for more than 9 months.
Has anyone else come across this or know of any insurers who will be able to insure my car whilst away for 12 months?!!
In Germany I would simply lend it to a friend or relative for the duration I'm away. It would then be their job to take care of that pesky insurance business in return for having a car practically for free.

Good idea if you can lend it to a friend or relation you trust for that period and they insure it. You don't need to own the car to insure it, just have an insurable interest and if they have access to it they have this.
Depending on the car,how much it's worth and where it is to be kept another option may be just to storeage it well locked up in a garage or lockup. 12mths is a long time for a vehicle not to be used and the wear and tear on the engine on start-up would be more than actually driving it for 5,000mls, so it should be turned over every few weeks to prevent the bearings drying up.
Thank you for your replies!
It will be locked up in a garage and my Dad will be turning the engine over every couple of weeks to maintain it. A friend who is a mechanic has said this will be ok.
One good thing it that I will be saving money on car insurance. Ha ha!!!!!!!
See you all in Oz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
