Hey ya'll. I am really ticked off at whoever marked my message as spam. I am not a spammer and put a valid link to a really good place I stayed. I made a web site for the woman, jesus and was proud of it!

I started this thread in June. I am from the states, I came to Slovenia last July and have been all over, living here practically, and homeschooling my 12 year old nephew....and TO JE TO!

I am sincerely wanting to help peoeple. Over the course of my time over three years I have had terrible experiences with those apartments that you just wonder why why why...Pula is a great spot.

That is just ridiculous that you listed me as spam....I though this was travelers point and I could tell people about my travels and make recommendations...

October is great by the way...and I would write more but I feel really hurt that those suspicious minded people would list me as a spammer instead of looking up to who started this thread in the first place.!!!

peace

xena

now....could everyone write to whoever turns back on xena.vando please?

I want to be vindicated...and the only reason I even came to this forum was becuase I saw people needing help! AND I WAS TRAVELING!

I MADE A WEBSITE BECAUSE I GOT A DISCOUNT AND THE WOMAN WHO OWNS THE PLACE IS REALLY REALLY COOL.

I HAVE BEEN STAYING IN A TRAILER IN PEROJ FOR 3 SUMMERS PRIOR.

Greetings all, I am turned on...hahaha....

spammer here....

Anyway...

t_maia....The Croatian coast is like California...every kind of beach possible. It depends on where you go in Croatia. If you want sandy beaches ,islands and the south of Croatia. If you are interested in night life on a budget, just do the typical Dubrovnik, Hvar, Split, Brač. It is beautiful there. Windy...depends on what day it is. Generally there is wind...hvala bogu....or else you would bake...

By the way, there is a water shortage down there, so call and check to see if the hotel you are staying at actually has water, or else you will be pouring your expensive plastic bottles of water down the toilet and washing your hair in the sea...

Anywhere in Croatia is just paradise...Like I always say, Istra, but I am not the tourist tourist...

Be careful with those ladies offering you a place. You can always book a hotel in advance and then go looking. In split you can check the hotel split or the grand hotel...in those bigger hotels you should be able to find something cheap...Go to adriatica.net is a good place to start.

Listen, about being female and traveling in the Balkan region. Be careful. Very careful. The men always try to get you drunk...even if you don't drink. Always count your change. Know the exchange rate between the Canadian dollar and the Kuna by heart...Everytime you get the bill for anything look at it, never trust anyone, even if they look nice. The economy is really terrible in Croatia. That is good and bad. It is not criminal there like the usa. Just people try to get a little extra because it is hard to make a living. People live on about 2000 kunas a month...or less...and that is about 400 a month...for a good salary. It is not against you...just they don't have a way to make money.

Weather is perfect! in October. You might end up in the cold and rain...but...I have been there so many times it varies...I was swimming in October 2004 and last OCtober.

Don't worry about getting around there, people generally know english, they will help you out...

thanks for writing I like to help...and save people from mistakes I made.....

I have a safe place that I stay in in Istria. So...if you want to know, come to my private mail box so I can tell you where so I don't have to be upset by those suspicious souls who project their own personal lack of intergrity on others.

Rent a car if you want to do all of that. The train is not cheap at all. To check prices...sometimes you can not get the price and sometimes...you get almost 50% at the train station in Ljubljana if you are going to Klagenfurt or something.

http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/en/

http://www.europcar.com/
book in advance here and it is 50% less

http://www.uk.map24.com/
is great for routing...in Slovenia you should go through Koper and check out Porto Rož if you are going out of Trevisio.

Dear Xena,

when was the last time you have been in Croatia?! The economy is not great but people do not have salary 2000 kunas anymore. It is higher now, I would say. But still I agree, people on the coast try to make an extra money that way:-(

Hotels in Spilt are not too good so maybe it is even better to go in private accomodation but reserved with tourist agency (not necessary adriatica.net:-)))

And one more thing, Croatia is not Balkan:-))))))

Thanks for all your advice Xena! I will definately be careful!

Nikolina: Do you have a recommendation on where I can get a private accomodations? I would like to try this route as I want to have the most authentic Croatian experience possible..

When I think about it, try with adriatica.net. I will not bother you with other agencies:-))

Dubrovnik is very famous place in last few years and very expensive with many tourists so I would recommend you to make room reservation in advance. What is more interesting for you, beaches or town history? If town history try to make reservation in city centre close to Stradun but that will be more expensive.

How many days you plan to stay there?
