I am very many days minimum do you recommend? I like town history/architecture/landscapes/food/people watching, over beaches (but would like to see a bit). I also plan to see Split.

I'll be going in October...will it still be really expensive? I was told it was inexpensive to travel in Croatia.

I am not sure what is expensive for you. Off course Croatia is not expensive like UK of Sweden but maybe is not that inexpensive as you think. I live in Zagreb and was in Dubrovnik few years ago, also in October and it was definately more expensive then Zagreb.

Few days in each town in my opinion is quite enought. If you are coming to Split via Zagreb, I would suggest also to visit Plitvice lakes (few hours ride from Zagreb).

Hi! I was to Croatia last summer and went from Zagreb to Split by car. Plitvice lakes are between both but a bit far from the highway. Anyway it's not goin to take you too much time to get there and a think it's a MUST. It's really awsome! There are several paths depending on how much time you have to visit it, but i'd stay as much as posible. Unforgettable. Really.

Dear Luis,

is Croatia expensive or not? I live in Croatia and I think it is not that inexpensive as many people think but I would like your to know your opinion.

Not really inexpensive. May be Rijeka. And even Zagreb is somehow cheap. But Split or Dubrovnik definitively they are not inexpensive. Obviusly they're not as expensive as UK or France but more than Slovenija for example.

Thanks, just did not want to give wrong information. Most people think all ex comunist counties are very inexpensive, but unfortunately it is not that way any more:)

Expensive or inexpensive...I'm sure it'll be worth it regardless! Of course being the latter is better!

I will have more questions for all of you as my plans start falling into place!

Thanks again!

You are sounding like a life saver at the moment....I can read heaps of books but it is nothing like talking to someone... we are going to split for 2 full days 3 nights (2 half days). We are wanting to find a nice island to go over too for one day (would love to get away from all the touristy places and see the natural beauty) and nice places where we could visit at split. We will be there late October.. Pls pls what is the weather like? Markets, is there any on? how easy and quick is it to get to the islands? I heard Hvar is good?
Any idea on what we can cram in would be great...

For renting a car i would recommend Dollar Thrifty ( They have a good prices and the lowest drop off anywhere in Croatia or Bosnia. It's true. You better make a reservation over internet or by email, it's cheaper.
