Booked my RTW ticket for November Now things seem more real and I'm very excited but also nervous and sad at the same time - sad because I'll be away from my family for a while, nervous because it's my first time backpacking - although have travelled alot but however am very excited because it is going to be a big journey for me soon

My route is LONDON-SYDNEY-AUCKLAND-SURFACE-CHRISTCHURCH-HONG KONG-LONDON.

Does anyone have any handy tips on sights to see mainly in NZ and Hong Kong If so, It'd be handy to know, cheers Meanwhile I'm off to take some valium;)

Many Congrats.

Just one note of caution - don't celebrate so much that you drink all your savings away so can't afford to travel (a frend's 6 month trip ended up as only 3 weeks by the time he left as he had ran out of money in the meantime).

Btw, how is it a rtw trip when you not actually going round the world

Cheers for the advice Gelli It's hard to say no to going out all the time and my friends are kinda reluctant to let me go so they are trying to encourage me to go out all the time and trying to get me to buy loads of clothes as I love to party and am a shopoholic is is proving extremely difficult to do Despite my ultra strong willpower and getting upset, I do actually find it kinda funny what my friends are doing. It also makes me happy knowing that they are going to such lengths not to let me go as I know they'll miss me:) I am relying on my ultra strong willpower alone to allow me not to splurge too much

Re the RTW trip - not sure what else to call it really It is actually a RTW ticket I've purchased. I don't think that you need to do a whole 360 round the globe to call it Round the World - you can still get tickets and go to a few places. I'd love to include more but it just ain't gonna happen at the moment

Hey Rach-a, congratualtions! I must admit that I envy you, I really need some adventure also :)
I'm sure you will have an excellent trip!! I also was quite nervous when I left alone on my first backpacking trip, but on the first bus I took when I left, I already met some cool people, so don't worry too much!

Thanks Tingo I'm sure I'll be fine when I am out there also. I have been travelling alone twice and although nervous beforehand, I thoroughly enjoyed it all once out there, both in Tenerife and Greece. I'm therefore not gonna worry too much over it. I am more excited really, not sad anymore, I think it was just a feeling that just came over me when I had actually purchased the ticket - maybe that was my homesickness there and gone in one day The nerves will probably creep up again nearer the time but it's mostly excitement Oh yeh - alot of people are envying me at the moment so you're not alone ;)

Hey rach-a. bet yer werll excited now - i'm half way thru my RTW trip, am in new zealand at the moment so can give you some advice. dont know how long you have to travel, but if you really want to see new zealand in decent detail i suggest about 3 weeks to a month for each island, north and south. i am just doing the north island on this trip then moving to OZ cos not enuf time! but there is so much to do, even just on the north. you can scale the skytower in auckland for fantastic views, travel by boat up to the bay of islands and view dolphins and whales along the way, go to the volcanic park of rotorua, the caves of waitomo, skydive at taupo, too many places to list!! its a fantastic country i love it!! but save yer money cos the accommodation and food arent as cheap as i would like, and there are so many tours and activities that you'll fly thru your budget!! trust me! hope that helps,
c ya

That is fantastic news Rach...

I have just purchased my ticket and am feeling all kinds of silly emotional stuff but mainly excitement

My route is Bangkok_Sydney_Cairns_Bangkok_Home But I am sure this will change along the way!

I will miss my friends & family but as I already live away from scotland where my family live I don't think it will be as hard, although I'm sure xmas/new year will be very emotional (hopefully on a good level though)
