im wondering i want to fly into lima from the usa, one way. then i want to travel over land to chile argentina ect. i called the peru embassy and they said i need to have a return ticket, of course they said this in countries like singapore malayaia and they never asked. is it the same for peru or am i going to have to pay another 400 dollars for a ticket i will not use
I can't answer your question, but, have you thought of buying an open jaw ticket. You could land in Peru, and then have your return flight from Argentina or some other place. This flight back home, even if it's not from Peru, should give them the proof they need that you won't be overstaying.
My friend recently went down to South America, and she was able to get a ticket to Santiago, and then return from Lima for a good price. Ask a travel agent.
You should be able to buy a one way ticket. I flew round trip out of Lima but if they hassel you just show them proof that you have enough money to leave like a credit card. It really shouldn't be a problem.
Go for the open-jaw option. I did it several times, and it is accepted without any hassle. And you need the flight back in the end, anyway.
