It all depends on your interests. Do you want historical places - Malacca, or cities - KL, or nature - Taman Negara. Best beaches are on east coast.

Consider Malacca, KL, Cameron Highlands, Penang, then Hat Yai in Thailand.
Or Malacca, KL,then east coast and up to Thailand.

fr Singapore, u can take a bus to Johor & there is this Tioman island. After this you can opt to visit Melaka, the historic city then take a bus to Kuala Lumpur.

Fr Kuala Lumpur, you can either head to Penang (north) or Pulau Perhentian (east) for the beautiful beach & corals.

All destinies can be travel by bus.

So, to summarize, the route can be:

S'pore -> Johor/Melaka -> KL -> Penang/Terengganu (P.Perhentian) -> Hat Yai (Thailand)

Item: 2 & 3 is right! You may have another option...travel by road up to Kuala Lumpur then to Penang. Penang by ferry to Langkawi Island from Langkawi you can take the ferry 45mins to South Thailand/Satun and continue your journey to anywhere in Thailand.

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

It really does depend on what your into.
Would recommend the following
KL - city
Cameron Highlands - chilling out
Perhentian Islands - best beaches ever!
Penang (Georgetown) - cultural and lots of museums

hmm.. roughly i'd suggest 3 types of best places in West Malaysia, except you are planning to come to East Malayia (Borneo).

1- Beaches and islands- quite a few very nice one including Pangkor Island (the best), Redang (northeast at Terengganu), Tioman Island (near johor),Langkawi-more crowded by tourist & commercial activities, the previous 3 are secluded & very closed to nature.

2- Jungle - Pahang Rompin (very very old forest)

3- City- KL (Twin Towers), lots of cheap things in sg wang. May go to Genting highland for a chill & the only casino in malaysia is there(45 minutes fr KL using cab, or bus fare is very cheap). And enjoy at bars and lounge in KL city area at night time.

Penang is a must-go if you are traveling up to thailand, Langkawi island is nearby there. From there can take 1 hr ferry to southern thailand. Melacca is not bad too- the little historical city.

I also know how to get cheap hotels from the places i mentioned above. Let me know if you need my help.

Would recommend Taman Negara (amongst those listed at the top). Again, it would depends on how much time you've got.
