I'm visiting Thailand in June. Know about the country as the heaven for shopping. Any recommendation where i should buy stuff like clothes and comestic? Any stores that sell secondhand books
(like the Bras Basa in Spore)? Do i have to haggle and how much would it be?
As the time is limitted to three days in Bangkok only, can you guys tell me what is the must-do and must-eat?
Sounds to me like you are a perfect candidate for the Kao San Road Markets!
You can pick up all sorts of different clothes. Bartering is expected. I was told by a local to always start at the half price mark so as not to offend anyone, and this seemed to work well!
There are also tonnes of book shops both on KSR and on the surrounding streets so you should have no trouble there.
You must try Phad Thai from one of the street stalls, also the pineapple is delicious!
The Grand Palace is a must if you are in Bangkok for a couple of days.
thai green curry @ The Atlanta Hotel - soi 2 sukhumvit road, bangkok . sooooooo tasty and a lovely old hotel .
Kristy is right..Khao San is a must for u. Its a backpackers haven. Other suggestions for shopping includes:
1) Suan Lum Night Bazaar - cool place for shopping at night, open till 12am. You can get food there too
2) Chatuchak weekend market - cheap but be prepared to die of heatstroke
3) MBK / Siam square / Paragon - latest fashion / shopping mall
Sites to see as recommended by kristy is the grand palace. you can also do a river tour down, you can stop off at places of interest ie museums and such if it interest you.
If you are interested, go watch a thai kick boxing match, and the thai cabaret show
Food in thailand is excellent, just try whatever interest you ie looks good. I can't really recommend as I like too many stuff. However one place I recommend is a shop near the Siam Square BTS, i cant remember name of shop but it sells noodles, very famous, has a cowhead outside the shop. They start out selling noodles for sailors or something i heard. I can't remember the name, any one knows?
I also love the thai ice tea, mango shake, coconut juice, thai beer singha and the list goes on. =P
Oh yeah, thai massage is great too...i feel refresh everytime i do it.
Cheers and have fun!
If you only have a few days and have a choice , Shop on the weekend, The market at "mo chit" (the northern most stop on the Sky train). It has everything including a Shipping office in the market. So if you find the big/heavy/bulky Item you always needed for moms yard they can send it from there. if your into IT/ electronics thers Prontip plaza and the even cheaper fortune Plaza.
