Travel Forums System Talk uploading photos

I've just tried a few times to upload a photo, from my computer and it is saved as a jpeg. It keeps showing in the tool bar at bottom of my screen, "Done but with errors on page". Is this a problem with the website or my computer? I'm off to Thailand next Thursday and want to be able to upload photos. Any ideas, am I being stupid? I'm not very "technical"..

I checked your profile and that doesn't show any photos. That could be because you've ticked the box to keep them private though, but considering the error you are getting, it's more likely to be related to the uploading not working.

One question; are there any strange characters in the name of the photo (stuff like æ or å?)?

I'll go test on my side to see if I can recreate the error...

I just tested the uploading and it seems to be working fine. I'm wondering if the file type naming is making the difference although it seems unlikely.

Could you try changing the name to something.jpg instead of something.jpeg ?

I don't think this is the reason but it's the only thing I can think of right now aside from issues relating to your computer (that error message seems like more of a local error too)....

Also: which browser do you use? And you don't get any red "error" box, with a message saying something like "Sorry, the file does not appear to be of a valid image format" at the top of the upload form after submitting? Does it say "Upload of [title of your photo] was successful" instead, or...?

Ok I've tried changing the name of the photo to .jpg but that still doesn't work. I don't know what you mean by which browser am I using .. I'm not very good with computer lingo.

I'm trying to upload a photo which is saved on my computer, would that have anything to do with it?

The page isnt changing at all, it just stays the same .. as in name of the file, date details, tick this if you want.. etc.

Help :(

Ah! Now that's useful information. What happens normally when you click on "upload photo" is that some small bit of javascript is run to make certain you've filled in all the required fields, and to replace the button with a text that says "uploading..."
Apparently your browser (the program you use to surf the internet) gives an error on this javascript earlier, and then refuses to run on the click.

In the Help menu of this program, there should be a menu item (probably the bottom one) that says "about internet explorer", or "about firefox" or "about opera" or something like that. Can you tell me which one it says, and then also click this and from the resulting screen tell me what _version_ it has? (That will be a number like "5.5.0002" or "0.8b1" or somesuch.)

I'm pretty certain that your browser is Internet Explorer, and that the version will be lower than 6. If that's the case, uploading photos on other computers should be fine, it's just your computer that has the problem.

If I was right with the previous question, btw, and if anyone else than you will be using that computer when you're travelling, and for yourself when you return, I also strongly recommend that you download and install this program, and use that for surfing the internet in the future. It's much safer.
