Hi everybody,

Do you know if (and how) I can get to Ilha Grande from Curitiba? If not, what is the nearest city with an airport? Did you think it`s worth a visit anyway or not really? Thanks a lot!!!

I forgot to mention that I would prefer not to go via Sao Paulo if possible.

Why don't you want to go through Sao Paulo? At least if you want to go by bus it is far the easist (SP is in between Curitiba an IG) unless you want to do a big detour? Take a bus from Curitiba to SP and from there you pick a bus to Angra do Reis (about 7 hours). From Angra you pick a ferry (about 1 and a hlaf hour) to Ilha Grande. The ferry only leaves twice a day. The nearest city with and airprt is Rio de Janeiro.

São Paulo - Angra
Viação Reunidas. Tel: (0xx11) 6221-8811 - Terminal Rodoviário do Tietê. Saídas: Diariamente às 8h, 12h15m, 16h, 21h30
Tempo de viagem: 7 horas

cheers, Sol

Thanks Sol. Don`t want to go via Sao Paulo because it seems like a concrete jungle - my time is very limited unfortunately so I would rather see something with more flair (like Curitiba supposedly). I am coming from the Iguassu Falls and have only 4 days to make it to Rio, so I thought taking a flight to Curitiba and bussing to Ilha Grande and from there to Rio would be good, but that doesn`t seem doable in such short a time...

well if your time is limited you should go through SP - it just happened to be inbetween Curitiba and Ilha grande. I'm not suggesting that you spent a lot of time in SP, you just have to change the bus there! Honestly, if you are to avoid SP, the journey will be a lot longer (dont even know how to do it). I'm living here in Sao Paulo so
I know that it is not a touristic place, but I definitely would say that passing through it is interesting - you get a small feeling for the city (the concrete jungle). And the strech from Curitiba to SP is
quite beautiful.

cheers, SOl
