Fur Coat has indicated that this thread is about China

Planning to visit Beijing for 10 days in August. Would like to visit the terracotta warriors in Xian. I would be interested whether I could catch an overnight train to Xian from Beijing? How long is the journey and what is the approximate cost?

over 13 hours about the trip , it may cost you ¥150 for a seat ;¥270 for a sleeper ;¥400 for a soft sleeper ;all of the train is running overnight :)

Yes, the overnight trains are definitely a good option for getting to Xi'an from Beijing, especially the comfy Z train (11.5 hours). Soft sleeper is 400/417 RMB for upper/lower bunk.

Is it easy enough to get this train and will it be necessary to book? I am hoping to do the same thing in august. Is the cost for a 1 way ticket?

living in shanghai for 2 years already, yet i didn't know it's that cheap to travel from beijing to xi'an. might consider to go there in august!

i took a train from Shanghai to HK before, took hard sleeper instead of the soft sleeper, quite comfortable, just don't take the top bunk, it will kill you.

good luck!

The Z train is great, similar to Air Force One I'd imagine. T.V. sets on all bunks, leather chairs in the all night bar and HEINEKEN !!!
