Travel Forums Asia 10 yr wedding anniv. trip to SE Asia in mid-July - ideas?

Hello! We're celebrating 10yrs and want a romantic vacation in SE Asia in mid-July. Any ideas for a nice place NOT badly affected by monsoons? Also considering taking a diving course (no experience), but that's just an idea at this point. Not sure how the monsoon affects diving for novices. Oh, and we can't afford more than $300/night accomodations (my other half would probably lower that figure some ). Thanks so much for your help!!

Hi,
Why not Vietnam with Nha Trang beach. We have great diving course there. And your stay is not too expensive.
Cheers

ABCDgirl,
I would start with Thailand as most fly into BKK. The 2 main dive areas are Phuket in the Andaman Sea & Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand. Google both with 'scuba diving thailand'. E-mail some of the operators about July weather and room options. If you find what you want, the you are set. Malaysia also has dive resorts. Google 'scuba diving malaysia' and see what is offered. The Perhentian Islands and Langkawi have great diving. E-mail some of their dive operators and see who has the best weather in July. Good luck and have a great trip.

You could also try Palawan in the Philippines. Gorgeous beaches.

I agree with Mike. Head for Thailand, then fly to Ko Samui. Get the Lomprayh Catamaran to Ko Tao and check out 'Ko Tao Resort' situated on Chalok Baan Kao beach. I stayed there last year (courtesy of my Dad-well I was effectively his Thailand guide so obviously he was paying). It was about £30/night including a huge buffet breakfast. It's peaceful and tranquil, with loads of dive shops right near by. They also have a pool which is a bonus. So if you dont plan to spend all your time diving you can relax on around the pool. ;)
