Hey, I'll be in malaysia over the World Cup. Can anyone think of the best places to watch it?

Where are the main party towns? Are there any?

Cheers!

We're a football mad nation - so anywhere you go, you'll be able to catch the games live. Yeah, even though the matches will be shown at gawd-forsaken hours here, fear not. There are plenty of stalls open 24 hours, where you can sit down for a cuppa and watch the games live.

Where will you be during the World Cup month?

Best party action - KL. Penang has some decent places as well (I think).

Thanks for the reply choonha!

Not too sure exactly where we'll be going in Malaysia just yet, but we have lots of time and looking for a good place to take it easy for a few weeks over the world cup before touring Malaysia. Will be in KL for the opening of the world cup.

Penang sounds good! Will have a look into that!

Cheers

The vibes and passion for World Cup is fantastic is Malaysia. There was recently a reality football TV show which went around different states to recruit hidden football talents... The selected players then played the national team ( rather the under 20 national team as the full national team chickened and disappeared at last minute)
Anyway, all the main cities/towns like KL, Penang, Johor Bahru (next to Singapore), Kuching and Kota Kinabalu (both in East Malaysia) will have lots of World Cup activities lined up.
The cable TV (Astro) and free TV channels will be showing the matches.
Note that official closing time for most drink/entertainment outlets is 2am; which means you may not be able to catch 3rd match of the day which will be played at abt 3am Malaysia time.
But fear not, as there will be many nice places extending their closing hrs....worst case scenario, catch the games at less posh open air outlets many of which close late or are 24 hrs.:)

go anywhere in Malaysia, if there is an eatery place with a decent TV and Astro channel, definately the world cup will be on. check out some pubs in KL too.
