my parents are visiting me in basel, switzerland from india and have a 60 day multilple entry swiss visa . they applied for a schengen visa and were issued a 7 days stay single entry schengfen visa by the spanish embassy despite submitting all necessary dcos with a 2week travel plan and return ticket.
can they apply for an extension in the spanish embassy in switzerland ?
all help will be appreciated as we are confused about the rules for extension.
It is sometimes possible to extend a Schengen visiting visa (that is different from a tourist one, I think), but it varies fom being utterly impossible to a bit of hassle.
BTW, why did they apply for a Spanish visa? Are they flying to Spain from Switzerland?
I think they maybe could apply for a new visa at the Spanish embassy in Switzerland once they used the first seven-day one.
Altenatively they could "remonstrate", ie protest against the fact that they got only a seven-day visa. This would have to be done in writing ASAP after they got their seven-day visa. (Letter to the embassy.) Downside: Spain could decide to give them no visa at all.
if they land in spain and travel on to switzerland there's a fair chance of them not needing an extension at all. the swiss tend to be more lenient toward incoming travellers from (other) schengen areas. at the swiss border they will certainly be asked for the purpose and duration of stay, though
