World Cup Opener - Melbourne June 9/10? Anyone else?

Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific World Cup Opener - Melbourne June 9/10? Anyone else?

Starting to get fired up for the World Cup now! I'll be watching the opening match between Germany and Costa Rica with my brother Eric in the city somewhere and was wondering if any TP'ers would be interested in joining us.

The match starts at 2AM (on the 10th), so we could possibly meet a bit before that for some drinks and the likes.

Let me know if you're interested!

I'd love to join but I'll be watching it on normal European time :) By the way, who are you gunning for when Holland meets Australia in a few days for the friendly? :)

I am so pumped for the World Cup

Tough one. I'm hoping Holland wins, but I want to see a good fight from Australia and hopefully a goal. But in the end I've got my hopes on Holland to win the cup, so it wouldn't be a good sign if they lost to Australia!

Will be fun to watch though!

Australia is not very lucky, I think you are in a difficult group between Brazil, Croatia and Japan. Hope anyway your team could give up a nice surprise.
I am for small teams, it would be nice one win that time instead of the boring Brazil team! IT will make the cup more interesting to watch!
For my team (France), if they do not pass the first ground, we will all be very mad at them...although we do not expect them to go very far again! That can't worse than in Korea anyway...

Hi Peter,

I'm definitely up for watching the opening game, though we would have to support the German team of course ;).
Any plans on where to go yet?

Cheers,

Steff

No specific spot chosen yet. The Charles Dickens is where the diehard football fans tend to go. I think the broadcase probably starts at about 12 actually, including the opening, etc.. though I'm not really fussed about that. I figure we meet at some bar downtown and then take it from there. :)

Sounds good to me.
Does anyone know how much a taxi costs from Wimbledon?

Ok, here's a plan;

Let's meet around 10PM at Federation Square (those interested in coming should send me a message, so I can give them my mobile number).

We can bar hop or do whatever until midnight when the opening ceremony starts. I think the Charles Dickens will be a good option, but I could also try and find out where the German fans will be if you prefer that Steff?
