I'm planning to travel India & South East Asia from September to May. Ideally, I would like to avoid places that are still particularly prone to a lot of rain when I get there!! Where is the best place in Asia/SE Asia to avoid the monsoons in September/October?
In India rains are through by the end of august/begining of september, so India should not be a problem.
June-August, yea the rains are pretty heavy in some areas.
where in india r u plannin to be?
Hi! Thanks for the info.
I want to include Mumbai, Rajasthan and Delhi. Possibly Southern India too. Any suggestions would be great! I hope to wing it once I'm there rather than plan too much but obviously want a rough idea of what I'd like to include. Also trying to figure out whether best to fly from thailand to Delhi or travel overland - do you know whether overland is a good idea and how easy it is? I will also be on my own, so not sure if a bit risky through Nepal etc..
Be assured that both in north and western india, the rainy season end by early Sept.
So you can safely tour all northern cities!
Also,except Tamilnadu, all other regions in the south will not have rainy season.
(only exception is the hills where the weather is unpredictable)
Tamilnadu will have rainy season from early Oct till mid December.
Some coastal parts of Andhrapradesh too may have some rains.
Just remember that April and May are the hottest months(peak summer months)in India.
Have a nice time in India.
don't think over land is a good idea and yes Nepal would be risky at this time, quite turbulent politically
if you planning south india too, u could either fly done south and travel towards north or vice versa.
I would suggest you fly to Delhi and work your way down
Don;t know how much time u have for india..but suggesting the below
Thailand - Delhi
1. Delhi -> Rajasthan (Jaipur -> Jodhpur -> Udaipur)
Can either go by road or low-cost airline
www.airdeccan.net, 45 mins via air to jaipur
2. Rajasthan/Udaipur ->Mumbai
3. Mumbai -> Goa
4. Goa -> Kerala (Kochi/Kovalam/Kumarakon/Tekdi/Munnar)
5. Kerala -> Mumbai
6. Mumbai -> Home
U lucky gal
Me off to london n more tomm lemme know if there is anything more u need to know
..there's loads more to india tho'
Cool! Thank you for your ideas, will definitely take on board. I'm getting really excited! Think I'm going to get a flight from wherever I am in SE Asia to Delhi and then from Mumbai back to SE Asia and do India at Christmas (was actually backpacking in Goa last xmas-but only for 2 wks!). It's my first proper travels so think better get used to it all in an easier place than India!
cool...i'm sure you will have a great time..and if you are in mumbai...shout out for me.
