I am arriving in Sydney at the end of July/start of August and interested in doing a skiing trip from there. We would probably be just going for 5 days or so. I am really looking for infomation on how to organise the trip as will no doubt have to book in advance!!! Would you have any suggestions on where i should go to book a tour, was looking at going with a package and would be intersted in hearing of any companies you would recommend. Any advise would be fantastic.
Thanks a million
There is loads of companies offering tours just pick up a paper when you get here or walk into any travel agent.
Most of the coaches leave from Central station and its about a 7 hour bus ride from there to Jindabyne.
You can get a complete package deal where your accomadtion will be included somewhere in Jindy and they will drive you to the feilds every morning.
Or you might want to look into staying at the hostel in Thredbo village which means you can wake up and walk to the chairlifts everymorning....there is also some good places to go out in Thredbo although i would have to say there are more in Jindy.
Thanks for that - we don't arrive in Sydeny until the end of july so just hoping that that won't be too late to organise it. Probably be best going with a package as we will need to get all the equipment and clothes etc. But have the number for the hostel in Thredbo so will be defo give them a ring and see what they suggested. At present we are being quoted about $1000 for a 3 day package in Jindy with everything included... would this be about average?
In WA at the moment and they really havent a clue about skiing over east so all you advice is great!!!
Don't stress about timing at all...you can organise a tour the day before if you really want.and the season goes till Oct.
$1000 dollars each is a bit much...you should be looking at about $30 to $60 for accom. a night for something basic and lift passes are around $90 a day.
Wouldn't have a clue how much hire costs as i've got my own stuff although i would recommend hiring from either Jindabyne or Goulbourn as it would be cheaper than hiring on mountain.
Best bet would be just to have a look on the internet....and don't worry about booking hire stuff just turn up they should have it...Cheeri Cheeri Pow Pow is prob. your best bet if you want to hire snowboarding stuff...it's in Jindy.
Also i'd reccomend tue. to thur. if your going for 3 days..it can get wicked packed on the weekends.
Skiing in Oz? It's expensive as hell and the mountains are mere gentle slopes. Still, it's worth a look.
I agree with James, I live in CAnberra (2 hours drive from the Snowies) and snowboard every fortnight without fail during the season. So far the season has been crap - all man made snow. Hopefully there'll be a serious snowdump between now and when u arrive.
If you are in Sydney, then talk to INSKI they can show you what packages are available including coach transfers from sydney to thredbo/bullocks flat/persiher and return, accommodation, ski hire and mountain passes.
In terms of accommodation and atmosphere Thredbo is nice and has close restaurants and nightclubs - there is a real village atmosphere. Perisher is still developing in this area but has nightlife and the crowd a little younger and far more rowdy.
go to www.ski.com.au which will also put you in touch with all the things you need to know including snow reports for all the resorts and accommodation. If you can go as part of a group, you'll save money. Alternately sometimes organising a ski package to New Zealand is the same price as Australia (including flights from sydney and transfers, ski hire, accommodation, mountain passes and guaranteed better snow!!!)
hope this helps...
