I will be moving to Australia in mid to late July, and was wondering what rent costs are. I will probably be based in Adelaide, as I have a job already lined up. I work two weeks and receive two weeks off. Would it be better to hostel it or rent. I dont have to base myself in Adelaide, but thought convenient for work reasons. Anybody wanted a Canadian roommate for awhile? Just looking for some info, and beach and pub mates!

Hi Mark,

check out this recent thread about accomodation in Australia http://www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=24300. I personally think it's always nicer to have your own place and privacy than staying in a hostel for more than a few nights (and espcially if it is two weeks). Have a good start in Australia!

Hi Mark,
Depending on how long you plan to stay I'd suggest that you go into share accomodation - Buy the local newspaper when you arrive (Saturday's are generally the best). I'd look at something in or around Glenelg as it seems to be the current "in" place in Adelaide. Plus by going into a share situation you already are meeting new people. Otherwise stay in a hostel for the first couple of weeks to see if you actually like Adelaide you may find you prefer somewhere else like Melbourne (or if it really doesn't matter where you live try further up the east coast like Sydney or Brisbane). Hope all goes well with your move.
Cheers
Celeste
