I am thinking of making the border cross from Thailand to Cambodia by train, and am thinking of staying overnight in Arunyaprathet. I am going in November, will be with my boyfriend. Is there anything anyone can tell me about the sights, accomodation, food etc. of this town?
Arunyaprathet is a border town in Thailand and on the other side is Poipet in Cambodia. Both the border towns are small. People are friendly. Poipet is a smaller scale of Las Vegas. Should be about 7 nos. small casino. If you intend to proceed to Cambodia, the nest town is Siem Reap. The only means of transportation is by tot-tot ie. small truck. the fare to Siem Reap by tot tot is 260 bhat single journey.
There are alot of guest houses in Siem Reap. For non Air con. is USD2.00 per night/per person. For air con room the rate is USD8.00 per roo/per night. I would recommend NAGA Guest House. Clean, simple and the caretakers are friendly and helpful.
Do not miss Ankor Wat in Siem Reap. Enterence fees per day is USD20.00 but however for 3 days, it is USD 40.00.
Do not worry about food. The guest houses provide western food. Per meal with drinks is about USD2.00. USD is mostly used in Cambodia and Vietnam.
Do not hesitate to write to me if you intend to proceed to Phnon Pneh.
Happy travelling and holiday.
