is their any kind of this going on in s america. i would be looking for some bar work but when it comes down to it i would clean and stuff like that

any info wouild help

If you can work for one month try here (Ecuador)

You can get free board on some of the volunteer programs listed
below, but you have to commit to a decent stint(months).

There is very high unemployment in South America so locals do bar and restaurant jobs, you can always land a low paying long hours teachin ESL job in Buenos Aires and other cities also volunteering is a good way to get work, if you wish to spend months in one place. In no country are you able to take a job a local can perform unless you have residency and work permit.

i was more refering to working at a hostel and in return they would give me a night free. i am not really intrested in working at a local bar.

forget about it. Hostels would want you to stay for several weeks at least, and then only if you speak spanish really well; else you're just no use to them :-)

Also, I haven't recently met many people who managed to get by teaching ESL. If you ask me, that market reached its limits (well, at least in BsAs and Cordoba) a long time ago...
