Hello all:

Can anyone recommend some good guesthouses/small hotels/private accommodations in Pula, Split, and Dubrovnik areas? I'm hearing some pretty bad mojo about the big hotels.

Thanks! griff

what i did in split is you get of the bus , train, ferry ( i don't know about airport) or just go to the bus and ferry terminal, ad there will be tens of older ladies offering usually very clean small rooms for OK price...all you need is roof above the head right? have fun

Hi, In Pula, i stayed in a place i cant remember the name of, but the details are

Monte Paradiso 16,

Email address :

it was a really nice guest house with a nice sized room and a very nice owner. It was a 25 minute walk from the beach though, but there are lots of buses. It was also really cheap. The best thing to do is to search on google for accomm in croatia and it will give you pages of private accom and lots of email addresses. You will have lots of options. If you decide to take up someon on their offer of accom at the station, make sure you see the place before handing over money. I have heard many stories about people being ripped off by doing this.

In Dubrovnik i stayed in a place called Petra guesthouse. It was right inside the walls and in a fabulous location. It only cost about £8 a night and it was fairly nice. Again, search on google for this. I found that accom is split was fiarly hard to come by, so ended up at a smallish hostel called hotel dujam. It was slightly out of the center but nice enough and cheap enough. is a good resource as it will tell you about guesthouses and the like, you can then search for them on google.

Hope this helps.

I think you shouldn't go for those terminals offers. Although they might sound cheap, you'll always find cheaper if you go to the streets and alleys yourself. Just look for Rooms signs. You can get up to 5 euros cheaper rooms of the same quality. Almost all the rooms offered by older ladies are very clean and have nice smelling white sheets, cause this is a Dalmatian tradition. Some people who don't offer the rooms at terminals might seam a little unfriendly, but that's just a mask. Take it off by being polite and you might get a room even if they claimed there are no any free available at the begining of the conversation. Once you earn their trust, most Dalmatians are very kind people.

And about the hotels, I believe most of them don't offer as much as you'd expect for the price. This is because Croatia aims to become elite destination, but doesn't invest in luxury.

I hope I helped. :)
