I don't have any info and I have not read the book but entering a Bolivian prison would not be first on my agenda while on holiday....especially one in La Paz! (the emoticon says 'eek' doesn't look like an 'eek' but that is why I chose it. I would have preferred to use one that said 'YIKES!

im in la paz ow and from what i hear you have to bribe your way in and out. around 200 bolivianos. im told you first have to call your embassy and get a name of an inmate from your country who is serving time and then try your luck at getting in.

im going to give it a try tomarrow and see how it goes.

All I can say is... I hope you don't end up being a "name on that list"...

Go Tyler!

Can't wait to hear how it goes as we're due to be in Bolivia next year. I've read the book too and sounds a bit mental to say the least, however, wouldn't mind a "pop in" either :)

Drop us an update either way... looking forward to it.

getting in this prison is alot harder than the book would lead you to belive. i first tried calling the us embassy but the phone lines were down. so i took a cab down to the embassy itself. they were no help whatsoever they diddent give me a name of any inmates in the prison. the reason i tried to goto the embassy is when i was in bangkok i did the same thing and they gave me a name of a current inmate in bangkok prison who wanted visits. so i tried to head over to the prison and i gave the guard 150 bolivinos and all he did was let me in to see the a glance to take a picture, but i dilibertly left my camera at my hostel so it wouldent get stolen.

so i almost managed to get in but maybe it was just the worng time.

good luck to anyone else who tries.
