This may sound like a silly question to some but i'll ask it anyway!! I'm planning to backpack Australia and New Zealand for a year as from sept, i'm planning on staying mostly in hostels, but, can anyone advise me if I should also take a sleeping bag and roll mat just in case! any help would be much appreciated!!
if your planning on staying only in hostels then i would recommed that you dont bring a sleeping bag, most hostels supply bedding and wont let you use your sleeping bag anyway, incase you bring in bugs and stuff. and if your planning on doing tours to the outback and places you can hire a sleeping bag for the duration of the tour for around $10 which is reasonable. a sleeping bag is just something else to carry.
hope that helps
I'm taking a sleeping bag liner, its made specially for hostels. Its really small and thin and takes up hardly any room in my backpack and cost less than £10! I bought it from a outdoors kind of shop but I think you can buy them online too. I've heard some of the bedding in hostels can be pretty horrible, so its there for me just incase!
Thankyou both for your reply's, I think i'll take both pieces of advice and bin the sleeping bag and take the liner instead!!!
