Are there any Hostels in Berlin that I should try and stay at or better yet...any that I should stay away from? Thanks!

If you are going during the World Cup, celebrate any bed you can get for under 50 EUR/night with a bottle of champagne.

But if you want to try it: One of the better hostels is the Meininger hostel. I stayed there six weeks ago, was among the few really good hostels I've seen on my travels. I also saw the reception area of the AO hostel near Zoo from the inside, it gave a nice impression.

BaxPax, 50 mts from U-bahn stop Goerlitzer Bahnhof. It's my usual hide-out when in Berlin; not too expensive, relaxed and clean.

Your in luck, I travelled for 6 months back-packing through Europe and the East Seven hostel in Berlin was hands down the best hostel I have ever stayed in. http://www.eastseven.de/ its in Prenzlauer Berg, which is a great area, and is easily accessible by u-bahn or tram.

The guys working there are the friendliest I have ever met.

Only down side is that it is hard to leave, I ended up staying for 7 nights.

There are two other A/O backpackers that are pretty good and cheap as well: one near Ostkreuz S-bahn station and one near Ostbahnhof S-bahn station.

I liked the Three Little Pigs Hostel in Berlin http://www.three-little-pigs.com. You stay in the middle of the city (Potsdamer Platz) and can reach every sight easily. They also have a huge kitchen, free internet access (!). Rooms are clean and quiet.:)

After my holiday I can really recommend the City Stay in Berlin. It is a fantastic hostel on a very nice location. Lots of nice people and an amazing place to drink a beer.
