Hey all! I went shopping for Mosquito nets yesterday, as am travelling through Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia and will want a mozzy net for my bed. BUT, I have a problem. All the nets available are not free-standing, and have to be attached to the ceiling or wall... What to do? What has anyone else done? Are there hooks on ceilings normally in hostels/hotels? Is it okay to consider knocking pins or whatever into other people's ceilings? What have you done?
Please let me know!

That's not true, I think I only stayed in one place in Asia that had a mosquito net. If the place you stay in has a fan or even better air con, you should have less mosquitos in your room. If it was possible I used to burn a coil outside my room at dusk, this used to prevent them entering the room. You can also slap on some repelent with contains DEET, there are heaps in Asia that will last for up to 15 hours.

I don't know about Laos and Cambodia, but don't be worried as every hostel or hotel in Vietnam has nets for you.
Or if u run air-conditioner (must be in this hot weather), you never suffer from mosquitoes!

Thanks for your advice guys... I'll bear it in mind. Does anyone know about Laos or Cambodia though?

In Cambodia when I was there the mozzies were bad in places, espcially if you stayed near the lake in Phnom Penh. In Laos there were in a few in the south areas like Si Pan Don. Many of the places I stayed did not have nets.

I have been living in China for the last 10 months and, in my experience, air con does not stop you being bitten. Sure, it helps a bit, but I currently have no less than 10 bites - despite sleeping with my air con on full blast, smothering myself in repellent and burning incense by my bed. Maybe they build mosquitoes tougher in China or something.

I am about to travel through South East Asia and i'm def gonna take a net...

I'm off to Thailand, Cambodia and Laos next month and I've just bought a net. I was recommended to bring a little hook, so that's what I'm planning to do. I don't really feel like being eaten which i normally do, so I will find a way to put up that net

OK guys, cool, thanks. Sounds like the only thing to do is to screw it in to the ceilings then. No-one knows of anything else?
We're going to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia too! I'm sooo excited I just want to be sure that the only way to attach it is to hack it into the ceiling. I'd rather not do that if poss, but obviously catching Malaria is not an option!!
Cheers for all your advice guys, Ella x
