frida23 has indicated that this thread is about Greece

I will spend a 8 - 9 days on Crete in July. I think I will stay in West-Crete because I want to see the Samaria gorges!I have heard the small town (Agia Roumeli) at the entrance can be neared only by boot! (or on foot...). Does someone know from which town leaves this boot and how often? And you could suggest me where to stay in Agia Roumeli and how can I get back from the other end of the Samaria gorge!?
Thank you very much!
And any other ideas wath to see, visit, eat on Crete are welcome..!

Dear Frida,

The normal and easy way is to start the Samaria Gorge from Omalos, buses from Chania run there (there are also organized tours that you can book).
From Omalos you walk 4 to 6 hours (according to your physical condition and the traffic) and you reach Agia Roumeli. From there there are boats either to Chora Sfakion and from there you can return to the north coast by bus, or to Sougia and Paleochora.
It is not recommended to walk the gorge from Agia Roumeli to Omalos as it is more difficult and uphill.

Hope that I have been at your assistant
best regards

Vassilis
