How should a complete amateur / hobby photographer do this?

Travel Forums Travel Photography How should a complete amateur / hobby photographer do this?

Um... Hi !

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, so i'm relying on the kindness of all you people.

Actually i'm not a photographer, but after i found myself taking the n-th thousand picture of Japan i thought that i want to make something of it... and since i only knew how to make a site i made one for them. Mm... okay, it has the snap-on ads on it, so that perhaps i could at some point cover the expenses of the site, heaven forbid even the trip ( would be surprised though... even buy some better equipment to continue, other than that 4mpixel powershot a520 i made this all with. ;) )

I'm not sure if i remained sane all the way through looking back the amount of work this has involved though

But there it was and i was so happy that it was done, yet... i have no idea what to do now. I'm afraid of mentioning the link anywhere because of being frowned at, banned, rejected, whatever... even though i was seeing a delusion that i could tell people about it at places like travel sites. After all it was made into something that looks and functions like a ( supplementary? )travel guide in photos, and even added a lot of tips and resources so that maybe...

...since the photos aren't professional, i haven't got a chance on gathering pocket money for continuing on this trail if posted on pro photo sites... so that maybe the narration, and little extras would make up for the lack of... ah whatever...

...really what now...?
Please, could someone tell me what to... and what not to do ?

What not to... mm... like posting this thread ?

You can suggest the link in our links directory. Instructions are in there.

There are many other link directories online that you could submit to.

Other than that, I'm really not sure what the question actually is; how to make some money from your photos?

Mmm... yeah i guess

I kind of fell on the floor between two chairs...
Wanted to have my own little place with an atmosphere, that people like visiting, with lots and lots of photos and information and music and tips on everyday stuff but... then again, when it comes down to it, i guess i definately wouldn't mind some "financial support" so i can actually continue doing it. I mean i had to stop before i didn't have any more to spend, and even if people told me ...oh what fun the pages and the photos are i never knew Japan was such a place... that won't help much. But i love doing it!

On the other side... i just didn't have the confidence to start ramming myself into a world of pro photographers... and had many things to tell... so, i thought i'll make the site anyway, and add google ads. Why not?

And while i wouldn't feel a hint of "guilt" letting people know about its existence... with this intent in mind now, ... it just feels so awkward to do. I overdid EVERYTHING about it

( And is it just me, or when you get emotionally attached to the photos you have taken... asking for money feels like... robbing the people and places on them... I just can't deal with this too well. ... Or perhaps this is because i feel that the pics aren't good enough to represent these places... )

I just don't know... actually the photos aren't THAT bad either to be so unconfident, ... at least that's the feedback so far from others. But still.

Sorry, another post not making any sense... these are things i never talk about with anyone.
Anyway, i'll do what you said... and see what happens ;)

Oh, and I should mention; one easy link you could get from us is by uploading some of your pictures. If one gets featured, then the website you enter in your profile will display. Plus of course anyone impressed by your photos on here may end up checking them out on your site.

In terms of selling your photos, something like istockphoto.com may be an option, where you upload your photos and get paid (small amounts) by people who want to use them for whatever their purposes might be.

:) I guess i'll upload some photos then. That faintest chance of someone actually liking them makes me want to.

And thanks for all the information !
