Im doing an Italy trip near the end of the summer and was wondering if anyone could give some advice about crossing the adriatic and checking out the islands that cling to the Croatian shoreline from Split north. Georaphically they look alot like the Queen Charloettes off west coast Canada, except with medeteranean temperatures, through in the history and sounds nice. If anyone lives there or has been, any insight would be appreciated.
They Islands are almost all beautiful and highly recomended! Several places to cross the Adriatic, so depends where you. Split has most services, Ancona tends to cheapest route. If you are coming from the Southern end of Italy, i suggest Bari - Dubrovnik (be aware, out of season it only runs weekly) which drops right at the Southern end of the Croatia and it's easy to work you way up. And in addition, Dubrovik is a stunning city.
I am planning a trip at the end of May from Rome via train to Bari then ferry to Dubrovnik. The recommendations I received were for Jadrolinija Lines. They run a ferries all along Croatia's coast, I believe Ancona to Split also, well... maybe. They are the only line I know of that runs year round. There are a couple of others that run during summer months. Keep in mind you can also find day excursions into Mostar and Montenegro on different coach lines.
Here are a few helpful sites for Jadrolinija and private accommodations:
Hope you have a great trip! I would love to compare stories and photos!
