I am currently in the very, very early stages of research for a possible Mongolia Trip. I found a volunteer project that offers internships in a TV station in the capital and it sounds very interesting.

What's there to see and to do? I'd love to hear the stories of people who have been there.

Thanks.

Phil.

If you've got time to wait I'll be able to let you know at the end of August.

I'm staying there for about 3 weeks as I go from Russia to China on the Trans-Mongolian....

Earthwatch used to have two volunteer projects in Mongolia, one project was with "desertification from the Gobi desert" and the other had to do with really old "red haired, big nosed, blue eyed mummies (not kidding!")

You can check out more current info on Earthwatch at www.earthwatch.org. Earthwatch qualifies as a charity and any money donated in support of the project is tax deductible in many countries. In the U.S. you can deduct the cost of the project and the cost of the airline ticket to and from that area. Side trips to other countries not directly connected to the project may allow only for a partial deduction. Almost like getting a free trip.

Did three projects with Earthwatch a few years ago - not the Mongolia trip though!

Howdy Phil.

About what time of the year are you planning on coming? I recommend the winter, though I think few people would agree with me, unless they've been here in the winter.

I have some stories about Mongolia (and links to other Mongolia stories, as well) on my blog, which you can access from my profile.

Cheers,
Radigan
