Ah, Coogee....

Personally I love this place and prefer it over Bondi as a place to live. It's not cheap, but then again, there's not really anywhere in Sydney that is!

Sharing a room with others when I was there 00/01 was about 100-175 AUD per week. There was also a few real backpacker dives (not hostels, apartments) that were about 50 a week, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were torn down by now... Considering the way pricing has gone, I would be surprised if you could find a place for 150 AUD a week in Coogee these days. That'd be the case for most of Sydney though.

The place I was staying at was rented out by the rental agency next to the Mc Donalds looking out over the beach. It was an entire house and about 7 of us got together to rent it. Every time one or two would head off and travel, they'd have to arrange a replacement (which was easy at 107 AUD a week! At times there were 13/15 in the house as old roommates came back and camped on the floor, but it was a great place and very central (Smithfield Avenue, right around the tennis courts).

Toss the Boss at the Palace is a must when you're there

Coogee is a great area. A TP member named lil j (from the UK) lives there.

As Sam I Am said, it's not cheap, but it's well located and has plenty of buses (but not trains).

Here's an interactive map:

Also, search for places to rent/share at:

Ahhh i LOVE Coogee, ive been living here for 4 months and i'm moving on this week.

You really can't not like Coogee, everythings here, its quiet but you're only 20mins way from the city. There are backpacker hostels so you'll meet people out and about. Its a lovely place, pretty safe etc.

I'm sharing with 4 people in one of the apartments, the beach is right at the end of our road and the cost per week is $100 per person, which is dirt cheap, specially considering where we are. I mean Coogee's pretty small so your going to be close to the beach wherever you are etc.

There is a Woolworthes (supermarket) and there is ALWAYS notices for flatmates, the prices vary from $150-250 per week. The newspaper's also always have notices. You'd pick up a place within 2-3 weeks i'd say.

If you can find at leat 3 people to share with then it works out very cheap!

Good Luck and hope you enjoy it here!

Sam I am.... You forgot to mention -- just 1 bathroom for those 7-15 roommates in our house!

But boy do I miss Coogee. It really was the best place to live in Sydney.
