A friend and I will fly into Burgas next week and have a week to spend on our trip. Our spontaneous plan is to get out of Burgas rather quickly and head north towards Odessa, Ukraine. We will have backpacks and are willing to go anywhere worthwhile in the area during that week. Hiking, beaches, seeing real life are our goals for the trip. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jeff.
As an alternative to your plan you mught consider staying in Bulgaria.
Bulgaria is a really good place to spend your week, there are so many things to see there, the beaches from Burgas north to Varna are excellent, continue on from there towards the mountain areas, through Semen, Veliko Tarnova, Pleven and Cherven Bryag to Vratza north of Sofia and continuing through the Balkan Mountains, the Valley of Roses and back towards Burgas, or down into the Rila Mountains with the option then of heading into Greece to end your week there.
You could also consider going south towards Istanbul and into Turkey.
Whatever you decide enjoy your trip.
Thanks Bob! That will be our default agenda then. Any more advice from anyone would be appreciated. In terms of transportation: is hitchhiking (two guys) realistic? Or should we rely upon buses and trains? Cheers.
