We are taking a 10-day cruise out of Civitavecchia. We will be arriving in Rome 3 days prior to our departure and then will have 4 days after disembarking. Is it possible to see Venice in the 4 days that we have left on our trip? (In reality this may be 3 days since we fly out of Rome at 10:00AM on the last day. We may be able to fly out of Venice, but I would need to check into this.)
If it were possible, I would assume the train would be the best way to get there. Are there any B&B’s recommended? Hotels? Any other information is greatly appreciated.
We just returned from Venice 2 weeks ago. We were there 2 full days and that was more than enough to see everything -- including Burano and Murano.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Quarto D'Altino, Italy. It is about a 20 minute train ride in to Venice from there. It was a very nice hotel and only cost us 79 Euro per night.
4 days is enough; 2 days for transportation back and forth by train (make sure to book, as trains have a habit of filling up quickly during peak season), 2 days to get an impression of the city.
2 days are enough.
from civitavecchia to venice by train: 6-7 hours journey.
We stayed at Ca' Maria in Venice, which came out to about 100 Euro for 2 people per night. Way better than most places we found. There are also cheaper places, plus a lot of campgrounds, on the outskirts of the city.
We went by car, but I would strongly recommend taking the train. You get off right next to the Vaporetti stop, so it's a quick trip into the city. Plus the drive was incredibly long and hot. Three days in Venice should be good. We were there two and I wished for just 1 more... Enjoy!
Thank you all for the comments!!
