Just to warn you, I found the accomodation was a lot more expensive than elsewhere in Malaysia, and also of quite a poor standard. However. The small island (kecil?) does have more. Unfortunatly, I can't remember the names. From what I looked at they were all quite similar priices and standards

Good Luck

I stayed at a place called Abdul's chalets which were on Besar Island (large island). I paid RM40 for a double room, which had a bathroom attached. They were pretty basic, only cold water, & electricity at night etc. But the location couldn't have been any better. I think the chalets with a beach view may have been a little more expensive.

Check the following for other accomadation options:

I loved the Perhentian Islands, pure paradise!

I have ben to Perhentian Island some years ago together with a Malaysian Chinese friend . At that time a nice room at P. besar was about RM 20,-- and at P.kecil , a rat infested hut was RM 15,-- and the food was rotten fish, which even the local owners would not eat and actually wanted to throw the fish away(they did not know, that my friend understood Malay). The tourist however were so keen on fish curry, that go got the fish from the garbage and made curry fish out of it. The tourist after told them, that their fish was really delicious. So guess, what will tourists get in future. Everybody likes profits, the bigger the better.
The islands itself are nice. Besar for the beaches and kecil for snorkelling, but i would not go back there again, definitivelyfor the beaches. There are better value for money beaches all over S.E. Asia. (and without shariah laws)

You must have had a bad experience! I knew not to expect great food, but it didn't seem that bad. And yes I stayed in pretty basic accomadation, and there were bugs, but it didn't bother me as right behind my chalet was virgin jungle, so it's to be expected!

I guess it depends on your expectations if you'll like the Perhentian Islands or not.
