Anyone else think LP has lost it's edge?

Travel Forums General Talk Anyone else think LP has lost it's edge?

I think LP has gotten soft. My last three LP guides have been weaker than what I've come to expect and think in many ways they've lost their focus with the budget/midrange travellers. Am I alone in this?

Yes & no, I found my LP guide to SE Asia quite useful, mainly to find out the best way to travel to the next place I wanted to go to. For places to stay and eat, I found the recommendations to sometimes be poor, but you have to bear in mind your experience maybe totally different to what a writer experienced and things change very quickly.

For places to stay, I often found the best recommendations were from fellow travellers. You know that they have very recently stayed at a place, therefore you will get an acurate recommendation.

I have disliked LP for a long time; inaccurate info on connections, on phone numbers, pricing were usually WAY off... the Argentina guidebook was my sole exception, but I recently heard that's gone down, too...
