I'm familar with the drinking ages for the provinces and territories, but I'd like to know if those laws are much enforced, particularly in Ontario.

Thanks.

When we were in Toronto last year l think it was 18 (though its been a long time since l was 18 so that wasnt relevant!) - correct me if l wrong though!

I am from Calgary, and the laws are enforced to a point. the drinking age here is 18, but if you are an attractive woman with a good fake ID, you will be able to frequent the bars/clubs no problem. As for Ontario, i have no personal experience, but have heard similar stories. If you are a male and not of age, I think you may be turned away more often than not. That being said, you can always try!

In Quebec the legal drinking age is 18. Carding here is nowhere as strict as in the US, but you'll be turned away if you look under age and can't produce the ID.

Out in PEI they are pretty strict with the IDing. Like anywhere, a hot 17 year old girl with a half convincing fake ID will get in, but in general, they will ID just about anyone who looks under about 25. There's a number of bars that I can't get into if I don't have my ID, and I'm 28. I was in Halifax a couple weekends ago and I was IDed in a few bars. And there's no way anyone would suspect I'm younger than my mid twenties.

The same goes for Ontario. I would not risk it and plan a night out, only to be turned away at the door. This really sucks when you're the only one under the age, as most bars don't go for the "but all of my friends got in" idea.

I can honestly say I've never been carded when asking for a drink in Canada.

I do alot of buying of alcohol in ON, for a part time job. I have found through experience that they check my ID about half the time, even though the policy is looking under 25. Personally I find the beer store more lax than the LCBO but I don't know if that is the same for everyone. As stated above, if your a guy good luck getting into clubs underage, I get questioned sometimes and thankfully have more then one valid photo ID to show.
