5 Countries in Asia

Travel Forums Asia 5 Countries in Asia

Me and my husband are planning to backpack in Asia in February 2007. We have 3 weeks and have decided to visit 5 countries. We've picked Japan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. We basically picked them because they sound quite nice and don't need visas. Are they good ones to visit?

Also, I think we need to fly into Hong Kong. Do we need a Chinese visa for this?

Such these 5 country within 3weeks, I dont't think you have enough time to see 2 countries.

I spent 3 months in SE Asia (Thailand, Lao, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia & Indonesia) and didn't think this was nearly enough time to discover these countries.

Asia is quite a large continent, you may want to reconsider your plans.

We do a lot of vacations in 3 weeks and like to see a lot in that time. We have no problems with jumping from place to place and not seeing the entire country. So, since we are set on seeing 5 countries, can anyone tell me if these are a good 5 non-visa ones to see? :)

5 non-visa ones to see? Huh? Generally many countries in Asia need VISA as for foreign tourists.

By heck! 4 days per country and that includes traveling time!

As a US citizen you should receive a 1 month visa on arrival at Bangkok, this is free.
As you have little time I would suggest you might give Bkk a miss at first and see what flights you can get from the ajoining domestic terminal.Check on the internet.
Koh Samui, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Trat (for Koh Chang) Cambodia, etc...all these fligts are an hour or hour and a half and would drop you somewhere of interest.
then leave yourself a ay to look round Bkk before flying out.
BTW - Vietnam you need a visa in advance, Cambodia you can get on the border but not free...not expensive either.

cikusang, if the countries I've listed need visas, I must have misunderstood what I've tried to read about them. I guess I'll have to do more research on that.

wildfk, thanks a lot for the help :). I'm going to look into those Thailand flights. And yes, we're fast travellers! We only get 3 week breaks, and like to see as many places as possible in that time. I know it's not for everyone, but we love the fast pace :).
