I am going to Rio in November with my boyfriend and Rio is our first stop of a year long trip.

We were advised to stay in Ipanema for safety and I've had trouble trying to find a hostel there where we can share our own room.

Any advice would be grateful and any suggestions welcome.

Hey Marsh.

I stayed at the Ipanema Beach House and it was a great time. It probably has the best hostel breakfast and all your tourism stuff.. u can book w the front reception area.

Close to the beach and some gringo bars.. Its a great location.

Staff is great.

hope this helps

Ipanema is quite an expensive area although it is safe. There are loads of other safe districts though, I stayed in the Hi in Botofogo bit out of the centre, but nice district and safe, cool hostel, fairly cheap and very friendly!

I also stayed in Ipanema Beach House - and would recommend, esp for travellers vibe and sorting out all the tourist trips you want to do, hassle free!! (Especially recommended is the Favela tour and Favela funk party lol!!)

Hello marsh83,

My boyf and I started our RTW trip in Rio. We stayed in Ipanema at a hostel called Che Lagarto and ended up in a 4 bed dorm with a couple just finishing their RTW. It was an advantage to be able to pick their brains and it got us into the habit of saving costs on accomodation early on, plus it was a good, clean hostel and in a good location. I'd recommend it.

Thanks for all your replies, they were very helpful.
I think we might stay in a double room for our first two nights and then perhaps che lagarto afterwards.

Just curious, did you all get the airport transfer with the places you stayed or make your own way?
