Hello,
This september the 29th I arrive in auckland to start my working holiday in NZ, does anyone know any good hostels/backpackers to stay in auckland? Any travelers around at the time, want to hook up and explore the city? I plan on seeing as much of NZ as possible both north and south Islands, north in the summer south in the winter, im a keen surfer so if anyones from raglan or has some good advice about surf spots and places to stay that would be much appriecated!
Thanks
Joel

joel,

hey ... i'm a surfer too. i loved new zealand
alot of unsurfed breaks. sometimes a bit flat but worth the walk.

i stayed at auckland central backpackers while i was in auckland for about 3 weeks-ish. it was clean, huge, great location and all around a great place to stay. dont use internet there but if you walk a block or soo youll find cafes for 2 $ an hour.

Where else ya heading?raglan?piha?gisborne?coromandal?

hi cara,

thanks for advice about auckland central backpackers, seems like a good place to start, i'm not just going for the surfing but was thinking of heading to raglan in hope of catching that infamous left! It may be flat but thats surfing for you, im not sure about the other places you mentioned,(im asuming there surf spots aswell so will look into them) but will check out anywhere that sounds good! I want to see the big cave formations and the volcanic rotuara or however you spell it, and all the other fantastic beuty spots I keep hearing good things about.
cheers
joel

cara,
sounds like you know NZ well, howcome I was giving you advice on visas when ive never even been there and you obviosly have!
Hope that website url I gave you helped out, its not the main page to your exact query but it will lead you in the right direction, theres even a part on that website where you can post a qeustion to them, and they will answer you within about 5 days!
Its straight from the goverment to so you know its cosha. I got my working holiday visa aproved within a week! I wasn't sure if I could enter the country on a one way ticket, so asked them about it, and 4 days later I got a reply saying it was fine as long as I had proof of funds to purchase an onward ticket. Not sure exactly what those funds amount to, but a cheap flight to oz should cover it! So I got a one way ticket to NZ for 360 uk pounds, 100 was tax!! still a bargain though!
I may choose to travel some more after NZ depending on funds or just get a flight back home, but im pleased I got the info straight from the horses mouth as it were

joel,

the problem wasnt me knowing new zealand or about working holidays visa.. thats ok.. i'm a travel agent. i deal with those all the time and ive been to the nz govnmt immigration wesite and that. my point was if i am already in the country with a visa and i want to work there for another few years or indefinatly if a job has to sponser me to stay and how i change the visa.
