Mumbai Alone...!?

Travel Forums Asia Mumbai Alone...!?

Just a quick one really, looking for some reassurance I guess from those who've backpacked through or via Mumbai before...basically I want to know how easy it is to meet fellow travellers there (Colaba area probably, intend to spend a few days exploring/experiencing the city)...?

I'll be arriving at the start of October (first major trip and going it alone...!) and although I've been to Thailand before (for a very brief period, but staying in budget accommodation) I'm unsure of how Mumbai will compare in terms of a travelling 'scene' (first point of entry into India).

Basically I'm hoping it's going to be possible to hook up with some fellow travellers at some stage (particularly as it'll be the very beginning of my trip and I reckon I'll be needing a beer or two...!) either at my accommodation (recommendations welcome...!) or in the places where people hang out (!?)...what do you reckon, pretty straightforward or a bit of a mission...!?

Truth be told I'll be bricking it, so it'd be cool to know that there'll be other people in the same boat...just don't know what to expect, your comments and experiences would be very welcome...!?

As coincidence would have it, I'm flying from the UK to Mumbai tomorrow, and will be staying there for about a week, on my own. I've been having similar thoughts, working out where is best to meet fellow travellers and find my feet. The Lonely Planet guide points you in the direction of places in Colaba.

I'll be happy to reply again after my stay in Mumbai and let you know how I got on and where I went. Ultimately though, in most places in the world if you just go with the flow you'll meet loads of people, locals and travellers alike.

Take care

Hey thanks for the responses guys, great to know the names of a couple of places to head for (and Colaba seems to be the recommended part of town to stay in which is good to know, at least I’m getting something right…!?).

Jared, guess you’ll be there by now mate, would be really cool if you could drop us a quick reply as and when, would be great to hear how you get on over there...all the best anyway, hope you're having a great time...!
