I'm currently looking into going travelling for a few months next year :) I'd like to get a job for a while before i go, so that i can get enough money together so that i don't have to work.

I'm 22 at the moment, and will possibly be travelling alone :( (unless anyone else wants to come!).

Where would be a good place to go? My main thought is Australia, as it's English speaking, and there's enough to see and do for an extended period. Canada is another possibility, but i'm not sure where else to consider. As this is my first trip of this kind, i'd like to stick to countries where travel is relativly easy, and eating/finding places to stay, etc... isn't to complicated!

I'd like to do this next year, before i properly begin my 'career', as i feel this should be the best time for me to do this. It'll also be good for me!

Looking on the STA Travel site, i could do something like:
UK > Thailand > Aus > NZ > (Random island, maybe Fiji) > US > UK
With a round the world ticket (~£870). Would this be a good idea?

get open segments like flying into bangkok and then u can make your way to kuala lumpur or singapore and fly from there to say darwin or cairns and out or melbourne or adelaide

etc.. as for north america i would saw fly into la and you can take a cheap flight on west jet or air canada or even bus from la to vancouver and then can via rail across canada or fly into toronto or something and then go back to uk.

For now i'm going to aim for a trip of 3months, and £5,000. Would £5k be ok for that long? (including all the flights). I don't think i'll have the time/money for a Canada trip as well (if i go to Aus/NZ) :( But it is something to think about :)

My mate went for 6 months travelling through thailand and australia he managed on a £1000 a month , which is what I am planning , so 5k is more then enough, personally I would miss LA out its crap , such places like san francisco and 17 mile drive are far more interesting.
