I'm off on a short 2-3 week holiday in august. I am keen on going to perhentian besar and also diving at sippadan, and i've a few questions if anybody can help.
How would I get easily between the sippadan resorts and the perhentians? (I'm coming from the UK)
Is the weather good at both in august?
can anyone recommend places to stay at perhentian besar and the sippadan resorts?
anywhere else you'd recommend to go in the short time frame?
I am looking for a farily smooth experience; quality and enjoyment are more important than money.
thanks in advance
[ Edit: Tidied up. ]
Perhentian and Sipadan are worlds apart. My suggestion would be to fly into KL then proceed to Pulau Perhentian first. From KL you can take a flight to Kota Baru then take a bus or taxi to Kuala Besut where you can find boats going to Pulau Perhentian. I am told that you can make bookings at Kota Baru Airport for trips to Perhentian.
After your stint at Perhentian you can return to KL and take a flight to Tawau from there a taxi to Sempurna and a boat to Sipadan. I am not sure if there are still flights from Tawau to Lahat Datu (a town close to Sempurna).
If you are not cost conscious then Malaysia Airlines offers flights to these destination. If you are on a tight budget we have our own Laker type airlines called Air Asia. You can get a bargain if you make your bookings now. The more closer you get to the date of flight the more expensive the fare will be.
Thank you for choosing Malaysia as your host for your vacation.
as mentioned by the_dukun, perhentian and sipadan islands are miles miles apart. perhentian is located at west malaysia while the latter at east malaysia. no other option but to take a flight.
other islands that might interest you are pangkor island, tioman island and langkawi island.
the weather is good in august. have fun!
Information provided by zanif and the Dukun are true.
As for accomodation, I'll recommand Tuna Bay Resort at Perhentian Besar, or Bubu Long Beach Resort at Perhentian Kecil.
If you're looking for a reliable and fun dive shop to dive with, I'll highly recommand Steffen Sea Sports, the dive shop is located at Perhentian Kecil, but they can pick you up from any chalet or resort you stay. Visit www.steffenseasports.com and contact them for more information.
If you are looking for cheaper range of accomodation, visit www.perhentian.info
