I'll be going to Greece for my summer vacation in August.
My itinerary includes Athens, Mykonos and Santorini.
I would appreciate any information on these places : affordable accommodations, most efficient transport (especially between the islands), great restaurants and clubs...and any tips you might have about the country.

Ciao !

Hey Monika!!

Greek guy speaking.. Your itinerary has a great combination of top Greek destinations I have to say.. Well:

Athens: It's gonna be quite hot in August, I must warn you. However there is so much to do, although most of us will have headed for the islands.. :) Besides a walk in the historical places like the Parthenon, museums etc, avoid the city centre.. You should try the Southern Suburbs in Posidonos Avenue (Waterfront Boulevard), where you can find some of the world's best summer clubs. I am not exaggerating, you will see yourself! I can give you more information on that issue..

Mykonos: Great party island, a great trend, all of us have been there for wild weekends.. Stay in the island's capital and you will enjoy walking among some of the fanciest, most beautiful, trendiest people in summer Greece (celebrities included). You should not miss Super Paradise Beach for a whole day long party, then head to the capital for clubbing and for the after hours (after 4-5 am) there is a famous club called Cavo Paradiso. It has a breathtaking view and people go there & enjoy the sunrise while still dancing until 7-8 am when it starts to become hot! Some hours of sleep afterwards and then again to the beach.. easy schedule uh?

Santorini: One place that is eqoistic to say it is Greek.. it is a world heritage.. I think everyone in this world has to visit this place once.. Check staying in Fira although it must be somewhat expensive and try the beaches with different sand colours due to the volcano. DO NOT MISS "Ia" and its sunset.. go early in the afternoon and enjoy one of the most spectacular views you may ever experience..

As far as transportation is concerned, there is great linkage between Athens & the two islands, but I'm not sure whether there is a boat linking Mykonos- Santorini. Also, keep in mind that Santorini has an international airport (with incoming flights every 2-5 minutes in August)..

Both islands are PACKED with people, especially in August, so I suggest you book early in advance.. REALLY early, it's gonna be hard to find in a few weeks time...

Should you need anything more, ask me!

Hi Monika!

I'll be going to Greece this summer, too :-)
My friend and I are thinking about a tour around: the idea is from Dhelfi, down to Athens and after visit Peloponnes. And of course 2 or 3 days in an island, just lying down and have suntun. It'll probably be Hydra Island, but not sure for now.

Thanks a lot to Naranja for informations about Athens ;-) They'll be helpfull!

Naranja has given you some GREAT information! I've been to Greece 3 times! It's my favorite European country!! So, I would also like to add my 2cents worth...

Try to stop at Naxos for a couple of days on your way to Santorini. Naxos is a beautiful island, (pretty far-removed from the partying scene), easily explored by motor scooter in 1-2 days. Again, if you only want to party, continue on to Ios or Santorini, but if you want to relax for a day or so, Naxos is an island I would recommend!

Also, if you have a chance, from Athens, head NORTH, (mainland) to METEORA!! This place is COOL! Do a google search for some pics... When I went about 4-5 years ago, I took a bus from Athens. It was well worth the trip. (Mount Athos is also similar, but unless rules have changed, only men can go up the mountains to visit the monasteries...)

I hope you have a great time in the country I consider HEAVEN!

I was just looking Routard Guide for Continental Greece and I have found good tips for the trip I want to organize :)
I'll surely go to Meteora and Delphy. I have not decided about Tebe: what do you think about?
Another question: what about pubblic transports in greece? My friend and I don't want to take our car but we wonder if it's easy to move with bus or trains.

Delphi and meteora are very good destinations tempi (if you mean that) it is a nice place to pass from but nothing more(it is part of the national road and you will pass it anyway)if you mean thebes dont go. Olympia is an other nice place (in peloponese 2,5 houres from delphi)and of course Center of Athens is a nice place (for only one or two nights. All the above have mainly historical interests. If you are looking for nice mountains i strongly recomend mount Olympos (next to tempi). By the national road (from Athens to Meteora)there are two cities with nice promenade, Chalkida (or halkis) and Volos, if you have your own car and you are looking for a place to sleep it worth visit them.
